Manuscript Assessment

A manuscript assessment is a good place to start if you’re in an early draft stage of your work, and you need to know if you’re on the right track. It can also help if you’ve had a few passes from agents or publishers and need a fresh pair of eyes to highlight where things could be improved.

This service provides you with constructive advice on what is working well, and identifies any aspects that may require your attention. It includes feedback and suggestions relating to narrative structure and plot development, characterisation, setting, tone, voice, point of view, reader engagement, and if the style is suitable for its intended audience.

While examples may be used from the manuscript to provide suggestions for improvement, this assessment does not correct sentence-level issues, such as grammar and punctuation. In that sense, there is no mark-up on the script or manuscript, as all necessary information is contained within the report. The goal of a manuscript assessment is to assist you in self-editing and rewriting, and provide a roadmap to take your work to the next level before embarking on the structural and copyediting stages of book production.
